Marlene Dumas - Profile

Women, always women. They seem to play roles, the seductress, the victim, the bride. Among the main topics in Marlene Dumas' socially expressive painting includes the stereotype images of women in all societies übergestülpt, their social role models in both the private and the public sphere. Here, their protagonists and vulnerable not only physically, and the eyes of the world delivered and collected from their expectations. Even children and men, in moments of helplessness or injured than victims of violence, even deaths, are among the motives of the feminist artist. This often leads templates from the media such as newspaper and documentary images, but also by their Polaroids. The immediacy of their spontaneous brushwork creates make a unpretentious and intuitive impression, record groups and frames, headers and body fragments on haunting, expressive manner. Marlene Dumas is reflected in the media spread pictures and translates it into a personal language of form, a discursive and critical approach and allows political statement. Marlene Dumas, born in 1953 in Cape Town, South Africa, lives and works in Amsterdam. © ArtLogistics
