| The work of the 1954 born American Robert Gober practice in its mix of familiar and unfamiliar a strong fascination. His sculptures and installations make use of stylistic devices of Minimal Art, Pop Art and Surrealism. Consumption, throwaway culture, and thus subject to citations of our everyday life are among his favorite motifs. At the same sounds again and again the theme of the body: body fragments, particularly legs, partially clothed, of course, striking in their tactile details such as hair, lying on the floor, cling to objects, or appear to be pushed through the wall to have. In his art object Gober alienated too familiar, such as sinks, drains and other sanitation facilities, by depriving them of their functionality. So there is no inflow or outflow, which in everyday carry unconsciously used, gets stalled in order to win and eerie presence. The origin of his "sinks" and "basins" appears in the displacement of a lower middle-class world Sauber lie. With sleepwalking certainty, but rather located in the sphere of our collective nightmares, makes Robert Gober at the usual start of our civilization embossed ballast ratio to nature, sexuality, religion and politics shockingly visible.
